Biography
Early life (1907-1925)
Faustus Lestrange was born on 10 April, 1907, in Skipsea Castle, located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. He was the first-born son of Faustus and Melesina Lestrange (née Rosier). His father was an extremely influential member of the Wizenagmot. From birth, Faustus, named for his father, was heir to the traditionalist pure-blood House of Lestrange, who looked down on any except other "respectable" pure-blood wizards and believed in pure-blood supremacy. He had two younger brothers, Romilius, who was a year younger, and Cassius, who was three years younger.
His maternal grandparents were Octavius Rosier and Alvina Rosier (née Volant). His grandmother was of a very influential French family, and his grandfather of the French line of Rosiers. He had a maternal uncle, Marcelin, and an aunt Eglantine, who also decided, like Faustus's parents, to settle in England. Their grandparents and uncle Maurice's family, however, remained in France.
Faustus began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on 1 September, 1918. Like every member of his family before him, he was sorted into the noble house of Slytherin.
On the night of 9 November, 1918, his father informed Faustus that his three of his cousins had been killed, along with Faustus's aunt and uncle, in a cursed fire in Paris. The dead included Faustus's maternal uncle Maurice, his aunt Coretta, and his cousins Ermintruda Gamp, Floretta Gamp, and Corvus Rosier. Eglantine Gamp (née Rosier) had been visiting them when Corvus, who was suspected to have been showing off fiendfyre to his younger cousins, set a blaze so uncontrollable that it killed them. His aunt, Eglantine Gamp (née Rosier), initially survived with her daughter, but Floretta succumbed to her injuries twenty-four hours later. His aunt additionally passed away a week after the fire.
Faustus, along with his cousin Araminta, were eleven years old at the time of this family tragedy. He travelled to Paris for the funerals of his cousin Corvus, who he did not know well, and his uncle Maurice and aunt Coretta. The funerals of Eglantine Gamp and her two younger daughters were held in King's Lynn in Norfolk. Faustus, his two brothers, Romilius and Cassius, as well as his cousin, Araminta Gamp, were present. He continued to be educated at Hogwarts until June of 1925, at which point he completed his seventh and final year of school.
Later life (1926-1960)
At the age of eighteen, Faustus married his cousin, Araminta Gamp. The ceremony was conduced in January of 1926. Though they were still young, the marriage had been orchestrated by Faustus's father and Araminta's paternal uncle by marriage, Sirius Black II, her father having been incapacitated and disinterested in his daughter's life.
Araminta was the second to last member of the Most Ancient House of Gamp in the male line. After her father's death, the house would become extinct. Together, Faustus and Araminta had a son, Cyrus, named in part for the similarity it had to Sirius, after Araminta's beloved uncle. She made her cousin Regulus godfather and her cousin Boudica godmother, and they fulfilled their roles well.
In June of 1958, Faustus's father, Faustus Lestrange I passed away, and Faustus became Head to the Noble and Most Ancient House of Lestrange. One of his only actions as Head was to disown his niece, Philomena Lestrange, after she married a half-blood, Angus Whitlock.
Death (1960)
Faustus died on 30 December, 1960, at the age of 53. His son, Cyrus Lestrange, assumed his duties as Head of the family after his death.
Etymology
The name Faustus is a Roman cognomen meaning "auspicious, lucky" in Latin. It was also occasionally used as a praenomen, or given name. This was the name of several early Christian saints.
