He fought in the First Wizarding War and was murdered by five Death Eaters before war's end, along with his brother.

Biography

Early life (1945-1956)

Gideon was born into the wizarding Prewett family, with his identical twin brother, Fabian, on 31 March, 1945. Their sister, Molly, was born three years later. His mother was Mary Ann Prewett (née Macmillan), and his father was Alfred Prewett.

He was the grandson of Clarence Prewett and Alodia Prewett (née McKinnon), as well as the grandson of Caius Macmillan and Juliet Macmillan (née Abbott) on his mother's side. The Prewett family had been living for Devon for quite some time, and the Abbotts too were from Devon, although not Ottery St. Catchpole: rather, Barnstaple. The Macmillans were from Somerset, and his paternal grandmother's family, the McKinnons, were traditionally from Oxfordshire.

He had a paternal uncle, Bilius Prewett. He had two maternal uncles, Edmund and Joseph Macmillan. His paternal grandfather was Clarence Prewett, and his paternal grandmother was Alodia Prewett (née McKinnon).

He had two great-aunts, Muriel and Ottoline Prewett, that were the sisters of his grandfather Clarence. Muriel never married, but Ottoline was the wife of Ivor Greengrass I. Through Ottoline, he had two second cousins, Ignatius Greengrass II and Antiope Moon (née Greengrass), but seeing as they were not very close in age, it's possible that he never interacted with them much.

Hogwarts years (1956-1963)

Gideon and Fabian received their Hogwarts letters in the summer of 1956. Before attending, Gideon purchased a wand made of fir and phoenix feather. On 1 September, 1956, they were both sorted into Gryffindor House.

He shared a dormitory with his brother and another boy called Kenneth Thomas. Kenneth Thomas, for a long time, was their very good friend.

Gideon started played Beater for the Gryffindor Quidditch Team when he made the team in his fourth year at school, along with his brother Fabian.

First Wizarding War (1970-1981)

In 1970, Molly, Gideon's sister, married Arthur Weasley, and the couple eventually had seven children together.

During the First Wizarding War, Gideon and his brother decided to join the ranks of the Order of the Phoenix to fight against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Their sister, at the time, did not appear to have been an official member, probably because she had young children to take care of.

Their friend, Kenneth Thomas, was killed in early 1980, for his suspected ties to the Order of the Phoenix. While it cannot be proven that Kenneth had been a member of the Order, he was murdered by Death Eaters shortly after the birth of his son, Dean. However, for some reason, the true cause of his death was never relayed to his wife Connie, who was a muggle, and they believed that he had abandoned them. By this time, the Prewett twins and Kenneth had fallen out. The loss upset Gideon, however, but it's possible that the Prewett twins never knew or heard about Kenneth marrying muggle Connie Thomas.

Gideon and Fabian were attacked by five Death Eaters, one of whom was Antonin Dolohov, on 10 February, 1981, in the village of Rattlesden, Suffolk, where the Death Eaters had cast a Dark Mark in the sky and killed a family of muggles in order to attract members of the Order to its location. They were described as having "fought like heroes" by fellow Order member Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, though both were ultimately killed. Following Voldemort's fall from power, Dolohov, and perhaps others involved in the Prewetts' "brutal" murders, were imprisoned in Azkaban for the crime.

Post-mortem (1981-1998)

After Gideon's death, his grieving wife, Dahlia, and his eight year old daughter, Maud, moved in with the Weasley family, who were living in the Burrow, the house where Gideon, Fabian, and Molly had grown up.

Gideon's daughter was home educated by his sister Molly in reading, writing and simple maths, like her cousins Bill, Charlie, and Percy, while Dahlia searched for a job and attempted to piece their lives back together. When Maud turned ten years old, they moved out of the Burrow, and to the nearby wizarding village of Chudley, in Devon. Dahlia became employed by the Ministry of Magic, working for Magical Maintenance.

By the late 1990s, Gideon's sister, Molly, rarely mentioned him and their brother Fabian, perhaps indicating that she took their loss hard, but when she does, she speaks fondly of them indicating her love for her brothers.

Gideon's daughter, Maud Prewett, followed her father's legacy in joining the Order of the Phoenix when it was revived during the Second Wizarding War, along with his nephews, Bill and Charlie. By then, his daughter had grown into a beautiful young woman. Maud was responsible for passing information to the Order from St. Mungo's Hospital in London, as it was where she worked as a Potioneer. She also supplied the Order with Polyjuice Potion for the duration of the Battle of the Seven Potters, in 1997, after the death of Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape's supposed betrayal.

Gideon's daughter Maud, and several of his nephews fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, which was the final battle of the Second Wizarding War.

Magical abilities and skills

  • Magical Mastery: Along with his brother Fabian, Gideon was a highly-respected member of the Order of the Phoenix, implying that he was proficient in many areas of magic. Alastor Moody noted that it took five Death Eaters, including the particularly sadistic Antonin Dolohov, to kill Gideon and his brother.

Etymology

Gideon is a Hebrew name, possibly meaning "mighty warrior". There is a figure in the Bible known as Gideon who is a judge, known for his faith and sense of justice.
