Terence Higgs (born 21 March, 1978) was a pure-blood wizard who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1 September, 1989, to June 1996. In his third year, he played Seeker for the Slytherin Quidditch Team, but was replaced by Draco Malfoy in his fourth year because Malfoy's father bribed the captain, Marcus Flint, with new broomsticks.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Terence Higgs was born on 21 March, 1978, in Coleshill, Warwickshire, England. He was the son of Albert "Bertie" Higgs, and his wife, Mrs. Higgs. When he was three years old, he gained a younger sister, Theresa.
Coleshill, the town in which the Higgs lived, is a market town in the North Warwickshire district of Warwickshire, England, taking its name from the River Cole, which it stands on. It is just to the east of the border with West Midlands county outside Birmingham.
Terence's father was Albert "Bertie" Higgs, who was a friend of Tiberius McLaggen and Rufus Scrimgeour. They would often hunt Nogtails in Norfolk together. Terence came to know Tiberius's nephew, Cormac, in his early childhood.
Hogwarts years[]
Terence received his Hogwarts letter in the summer of 1989. Before attending, he most likely either purchased or inherited a wand made of vine and unicorn hair in Diagon Alley, London. He boarded the Hogwarts Express on 1 September, 1989, and was sorted into Slytherin House that same night.
He was the Slytherin Quidditch team Seeker during the 1991–1992 season and in the first game of the year, raced Harry Potter for the Golden Snitch. Like Adrian Pucey, he appeared to be one of the more decent Slytherins, as he seems to play by the rules of Quidditch and didn't resort to cheating. He was replaced, however, by Draco Malfoy at the start of his fourth year because Malfoy's father bribed the captain, Marcus Flint, with new broomsticks. Terence was noted to be particularly bitter about this.
Etymology[]
The name Terence comes from the Latin Terentius, an old Roman family name of uncertain derivation. It may be derived from terenus (soft, tender).
The ancient Anglo-Saxon patronymic surname Higgs came from Richard, which had several diminutive forms in the Middle Ages, including Dick, Rick, Hick, and Hegge. The name was introduced into England by the Normans after the Norman Conquest of 1066.
